This module is intended to be exported and imported by users to aid in creating a new module. Follow these guidelines and you'll soon be on your way to an excellent module!
Include your problem statement description here. The description should contain 150-400 words.
This is paragraph 2 of the problem statement. Add more paragraphs as needed. Make sure to enclose them in paragraph tags.
This module is aimed at tackling an Authentic Problem (i.e. real-world, complex, and ill-defined). By the end of this module, the students should be able to set up a hydrogeological model (in MODFLOW ModelMuse) to simulate groundwater flow and contamination transport.
"coupled groundwater/surface-water systems, solute transport,groundwater-flow simulation and groundwater management."
"To begin this module, you need basic knowledge on Groundwater Flow principles."
"At the end of this module, LO1: The student will be able to determine water balance of a catchment (including data acquisition and preparation); estimate small-scale detailed flow directions and hydraulic gradients using groundwater head data and a surface map; estimate groundwater flow paths and travel times using Darcy’s Law LO2: Using MODFLOW, the student will be able to develop a simple groundwater model from scratch under homogeneous, isotropic and steady state conditions, evaluate model parameters and performance and analyze model outputs LO3: The student will be able to interpret the results and suggest remediation alternatives in the context of soil water and groundwater contamination problems. LO4: Using the USGS MODFLOW, the student will be able to develop a groundwater model, quantify and analyze solute flows and travel times and communicate and discuss the results for the stakeholders"
"This will be accomplished through activities within each section."

Email AddressThis module is targeted toward last year undergraduate or Master's level students in Engineering and Earth Sciences in general, and students of KTH AL1303 Soil and Water course in particular.
To complete this module successfully, students will need a computer with access to Internet. Students need to install MODFLOW and ModelMuse software to complete the learning objectives.
This course is available for adaptation and customization by other instructors. A compressed copy of this course can be downloaded from the course about page in the top right hand corner by clicking the "Export Link" link. Make sure you cite the source of your new course (e.g., this course was adapted from KTH AL1303 Soil and Water). You can include this citation on an "Adaptation Page" of your new course, in your course card, or in the introduction section of your new course.
This module can be incorporated into an introductory hydrogeology course for hands-on experience, following the teaching of basic principles of subsurface flow. It is suitable for asynchronous remote instruction.
This module takes an estimated 3-4 weeks to complete.
